Allard dragster for Chelsea AutoLegends
Europe’s first home-grown dragster will be one of the stars of the Chelsea AutoLegends Festival on 2 September when the 1961 Allard Chrysler appears at the event.
Built by Sydney Allard in Clapham, London, the dragster was inspired by those from the USA and was capable of 10 seconds quarter mile times at speeds of up to 150mph.
Powered by a Chrysler V8 engine, the Allard dragster led to the founding of the International Drag Festival in 1964.
The car is now part of the National Motor Museum’s collection at Beaulieu and this is its first appearance as the Chelsea AutoLegends gathering at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London.
